New York, NY (May 2019)—Keep an eye (or three) out for Story Monsters Ink’s new official ambassador, 11-year-old Neha Praveen at BookCon next month. The conference is held June 1 and 2 will be hosted at the Javits Center in New York City. Neha, who got her start as a YouTube book reviewing sensation in 2017, was selected to represent the magazine in early May. A literary hit with teachers, librarians, and students in grades K-12, Story Monsters Ink offers the latest book news, reviews, author interviews, reading lists and more.
An ardent lover of books, Neha estimates she reads around 35-40 books a year and churns out at least one book review every week. “If I start reading a chapter book which may take me a while to finish, I plan on reading other books on the side, so I can keep up with my weekly schedule,” says Neha, whose parents—along with Story Monsters—carefully curate her review list. “I first read the summary of the book at the back and take a look at the cover page and the illustrations (if any) before I start reading. I have liked all the books that I have read and reviewed on my channel.”
She was first inspired to begin reviewing books, she says, because she wanted to be able to share her favorite reads with friends and inspire other kids as well, so her parents suggested she start a YouTube channel. Since she joined in Dec. 2017, her channel, NPStation, has netted nearly 200,000 visitors. “My goal is to reach as many kids as possible and make an influence to read more books,” she says. “It started off small with only a few friends of mine subscribing to it. Now I have an audience from around the world.” Neha plans to continue reviewing, though her aspirations don’t stop with her literary leanings. “I am also learning software programming,” she says. “And I would love to design a mobile app when I grow up.”
